Dermabrasion therapy is not a recent discovery. Traces of abrasion techniques were discovered among the ancient Egyptians as a means to obtain smoother skin with abrasive materials. In 1905, Kromayer used dermabrasion to remove tattoos, scars and hyper pigmentations. In 1907 Brenker used a static abrasive disc combined with a suction to polish the skin. This of course had the inconvenience of spreading all the bacteria across from the beginning to the end of the treatment and consequently required perfect sterilization.
Although very efficient, this procedure was only applicable with great inconvenience to the client and the results depended on the skill of the surgeon. Out of this technique came from Italy the effectiveness of the microdermabrasion principle. This new technique of spraying crystals onto the skin and vacuuming (microdermabrasion) offers an in-clinic method, very hygienic as the crystals are only used once.
It is a non-surgical, non-invasive procedure that offers safe and controlled skin abrasion. It utilizes micro-crystals, which are propelled at a high speed across the skin's surface to abrade the skin's tissue. The technique is very quick and relatively painless and results are seen immediately. There is no downtime, side effects or risk of contamination or skin infection.
Microdermabrasion is safe for all skin types and colors. The procedure gently removes a very thin layer (10-20 microns) off the top of your epidermis. The treatment requires no anesthesia, causes no discomfort, and has no recovery time.
After your first treatment, your skin will have a fresh pink glow. Improvement continues throughout your treatment program. The number of treatments recommended for maximum results ranges from four to six.
Microdermabrasion takes less than an hour to treat the whole face.
The treatment is ideal for people who have sensitive skin that reacts to chemicals or those with oily, acne-prone skin that is not improved by acne remedies. It is an excellent option for those who cannot afford to take time off for healing from laser resurfacing or deep dermabrasion.
The stimulated blood flow to the surface of the skin increases the oxygenation, causing an enhancement of cell renewal and collagen re-growth. The massaging action of the microdermabrasion treatment creates a flushing and cleansing effect below the skin surface resulting in a vibrant, healthy appearance and complexion.
You can contact us by phone or online to schedule a complimentary consultation. During your consultation an overall skin assessment will be done to determine the number of treatments that will be necessary to reach your individual goal. Typically, treatments are preformed weekly or bi-weekly and produce best results if taken in a series of 4 or 6. Depending on your skin condition, a more aggressive plan of alternating Glycolic Peels with Microdermabrasion treatments may be recommended. You are also expected to comply with the maintenance program using a skin care regimen to maintain results.
Your Skin should appear light pink with a soft texture. More aggressive treatments may leave a redness appearance for approximately 24 hours. You may also experience a light peeling. It is recommended that you go without cosmetic makeup for 1 day. You should avoid the sun for 24 hours after treatment and when exposed to the sun use an SPF 30 sun block.
It is very common for patients to combine microdermabrasion with other skin treatments such as FotoFacial™ RF and glycolic and vitalize peels. Treatment combinations and options are presented to you at the time of your complimentary consult.
